If you think that sounds good, note that the Nexus One is rated for 7 hours of video playback time.

First off, while I don’t like that Apple doesn’t offer flash on the iPhone/iPod, I have no love for it either. I am not defending Flash here. However, John is twisting facts and I am pretty sure he knows it. “7 hours of video playback time” is not equal to “7 hours of streaming internet HD video”. I would be surprised if, using a non-Flash source like the HTML5 <video> tag, the times would be much if any better. The drag on the battery due to the WiFi will make the drain attributed to Flash seem very insignificant.

By Gruber’s reasoning then I would like to see him explain why, when the iPod Touch specs say I am supposed to get “up to 30 hours” of music playback time I only get roughly 8 hours in one charge when listening to Pandora. I will tell you why “jackass”, it’s because of the WiFi. While I won’t deny that Flash will drain the battery faster than the internal player we can’t blame it (solely) here.

It’s the same reason my wife’s Kindle can run forever with the WiFi disabled but won’t last a day with it on. No Flash there, just soul sucking, battery draining internet access.

Look familiar to you? It is (except for one word change) exactly the reply Mr. Jobs gave to the developers of iPodRip, now called simply iRip.

Found an article by Chris Clarke over at Coyote Crossing that explains the “magic recipe” to writing award winning blog posts. It clearly shows that I don’t know what I am doing. Maybe that is the reason for this blog’s abysmal readership. Of course it could also be because I am an outrageous ass who posts only irregularly. Either way I think Mr. Clarke makes an excellent point. There is a formula for good blogging. You can get traffic by peppering links all over the internet, by commenting in blogs with similar (and even not so similar) content, and by whoring yourself for a link exchange (do people still do that?) but the fact of the matter is there is a formula, a recipe if you will, that is almost expected of blog posts anymore.

In short…

I am right. You are wrong. If you don’t believe me you are a Nazi. Jesus. Satan. Charles Darwin. Richard Dawkins. Mickey Mouse. You are still a Nazi and I am right.

Nancy Cartwright Can Eat My Shorts Man!

I can’t for the life of me figure out why she would do such a thing. So she is a Scientologist. Big deal. I can only think of 3 possible scenarios:

She did the recording not knowing how it was going to be used. Ok, fine. I still don’t think she should have even done the recording but lets just pretend she did it with no knowledge. I truly hope this is what happened and someone took advantage of her. I can forgive that. Make it known and I will recind my Doh!

She did know what she was doing and did it without permission of FOX, Matt Groening, et. al. If this is the case then I hope they sue the shit out of her, fire her, then sue her some more. If this is the case I refuse to watch the show again until she is no longer a part of it. The voice of a cartoon is replacable.

She did it with permission from FOX, Matt Groening, et. al. If that is the case then there isn’t much I can hope for. My days of watching are over.

I don’t know that this is all that big of a deal. The show has definately been going down hill for some time. There are moments of past greatness. The voice acting is still top notch. I think it is the writing that has been suffering lately. The movie sucked. So I won’t be all that heartbroken if I am forced to endure the end of my Simpsons watching career. I just wish it was happening on a happier note.

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.

I think I may have asked this before but here we go again. Anyone have any suggestions for a good, server-side RSS aggregator? I have been using Bloglines for quite a while but I think I would like something different.

I have toyed with the idea of writing my own but for right now I don’t have the time.

I found TT-RSS today and may give it a try.

I also use rss2email a bit as well.

What would I like in an aggregator?

Some sort of spam filtering. Not exactly spam I guess, I want it to learn what I like to read. My thought was some sort fo Bayes filter that would at the very least allow me to say ‘yay’ or ‘nay’ to a particular post. Ultimately I would like to be able to have more choices than that, maybe a 1-5 or 1-10 scale I can give a post and then future (once the bayes filter is trained) it would put all of the highest ranked articles at the top and so forth.

Automatically updating. I don’t want to have to refresh my page to see if there are any new articles. They should just show up.

AJAX goodness. I like AJAX, sure it is probably just a fad. Who knows. Make it ‘cool’ enough that I want to use it as opposed to using it just because it is convienient.

It should degrade gracefully. I know that would kill the AJAX stuff but if I want to use it in lynx I should be able to.

Plugin system. I would like to be able to add/write plugins for the aggregator. You know, like a ‘Post this to del.icio.us‘ or ‘Email this article’ type things. I realize things like Greasemonkey will allow me to do this, however, none of those are truly cross platform.

There are probably even more things that I am not thinking of at the moment. At any rate, if you have any suggestions that would be great.
