Wow! Nothing like trying to profit on the mass ‘terrorist’ hysteria following 9/11. Don’t get me wrong, that was a horrible event. But you would be a fool to think there aren’t a bunch of people who ended up with fat pockets praying on the mass paranoia that has followed. Take for example the Homeland Security Blanket. The thing is wired into the internet through wireless (WiFi) and responds to the ever powerful (even though no one knows what the hell the colors mean) Homeland Security “Threat Level” indicator.
It’s kinda hard from the description (this is just a prototype) but it looks like it has a light that indicates the current threat level. The other thing the blanket does is changes temperature with the threat level, kinda like an electric blanket I assume.
The really funny thing about this is at the end of the description where it says:
…which alerts the user of current threat and comforts them accordingly.
So let me get this straight, when ‘the man’ raises the threat color to ‘Oooops, your dead fuchsia’, the little light moves up on the scale and your blanket gets hotter than hell. And that is supposed to be…comforting?
I guess my biggest problem with the things is it seems a little ‘big brother’ to me. It follows that if the blanket can receive WiFi messages from homeland security about the threat level it can also send messages back to them about it’s location or who knows what else. Just the kind information that the government would love to have.
